Adrian Liew
Singapore

Dr Adrian Liew, MBBS, MRCP(UK), FAMS, FRCP (Edin), FASN, MClinEpid, received his basic medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. He completed his basic specialty training in internal medicine and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK). Subsequently, Dr Liew pursued further training in renal medicine and obtained specialist accreditation as a Nephrologist in 2007 and was elected as a fellow to various academic institutions including the Academy of Medicine (Singapore), Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and American Society of Nephrology.

In late 2009, Dr Liew established the Department of Renal Medicine in Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and became its founding Head, a position that he is still currently holding. At the same time, he is also a Senior Consultant and Director of the Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis Program with the department. He has developed and expanded various clinical services in nephrology while achieving several milestones for the department in the process, including becoming the first hospital in Singapore to have an interventional nephrology initiative, a clinical and research service in glomerular diseases, and a program focusing on a nephrologist-led peritoneoscopic insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters. He is a visiting consultant to the Kidney Dialysis Foundation, National Kidney Foundation, Singapore Armed Forces and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, and provides consult services and training to nephrologists in Brunei, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Myanmar and Indonesia. Dr Liew also serves in his professional capacity as as member of various national committees with the Ministry of Health, including the Advisory Committee on Transplantation, National Renal Services Strategy Committee, Drug Advisory Committee and Singapore Renal Registry Advisory Committee. He also serves on various scientific advisory boards and is the subject editor of the Nephrology Journal.

On the medical education front, Dr Liew is also actively involved in the training ofmedical students and junior doctors in internal and renal medicine. He is a member of the national Residency Advisory Committee for Renal Medicine and the JCST Accreditation Committee for national residency programs. He is the Associate Program Director for the NHG Internal Medicine Residency Program, as well as a core clinical faculty member for both the Internal Medicine and Renal Medicine Residency Programs.
